During our first phase, we witnessed more than 1,000 people gain access to clean, potable water. What was once too far became closer and what was once too poor in quality became cleaner. Women and children were able to re-invest their time because they no longer need to walk hours to the nearest well.

And through local ownership and rigorous quality testing, communities are thriving on clean water.

But clean water is also a vehicle for better health.

Our next PHASE: sanitation

It’s true: water satisfies our thirst and is vital to life. But we are going beyond access and quality. Clean water, with soap and hand washing, leads to better sanitation. And better sanitation has the power to improve a community’s health. According to the World Health Organization, washing hands with soap can reduce diarrhea-related death by up to 50%.

Today on #WorldHealthDay, we remain committed to the health of our partner communities through sanitation. Our upcoming sanitation campaign supports hand washing with soap by engaging community members with soap kits and fun soaps with toys inside.
